exhaustion.

My job is kicking my ass. I got a new job at the post office, driving the mail truck. It's probably been about a month now since I started. Whoever thinks mail carriers just drive around all day and have an easy job is CRAZY. The shit is hard. Learning the routes, learning all about different kinds of mail and what to do, and learning how to drive a right-hand-drive truck. What makes it so much harder is the HEAT. The mail trucks are NOT air conditioned. It's hotter inside them than it is outside. They have little fans that help a teeny bit. It's been in the high 90's most days, and last Saturday got up to 105. That night I threw up, felt like crap all day Sunday, etc. Heat exhaustion basically, although I've been drinking tons of water. Today was a much shorter day- I actually got finished by 4:30- YAY me! But it was still hotter than hell, and I was ready to crash. I went to my mom's house and slept on her couch for a few hours. I feel like a Mean Mommy, just sleeping while Chris played with everyone else, but I seriously did not have the strength to continue being awake. So overall, I have been improving slowly. I started to get the impression this week that a few other people are starting to be aggravated by me taking so long. My boss seems to think I am doing okay though, and I guess that is the main thing. It will get easier, probably around the same time it gets cooler. I think I will really like the job, once I get to the point where I don't feel like I'm about to die at the end of every day. And of course it pays about 3 times what I was making at my old job, plus cheap federal benefits. Can't complain there.
